About Cake

Cake is a passion project I maintain in my free time. I created it because I wanted to spend more time knitting, and less time swatching, figuring out stitch counts, and frogging. Naturally, I spent a lot of time working on this tool instead.

Why ‘Cake‘? It‘s never a good sign when you have to explain a name, but here we are: Cake stands for Computer Aided Knitwear Editor. It‘s a play on CAD (Computer Aided Design) software, used to create 2D or 3D models and designs. This is the same idea applied to knitting. The name also refers to a yarn cake: the distinctive shape created by a yarn winder when turning a hank into a ‘ball’.

I do my best to keep things running smoothly and make improvements when I can, but as this is still a hobby project it may be a little rough around the edges. If you run into any issues, please do reach out! I’d really appreciate it and will do my best to fix things up.
